toothpaste

UPDATE! summer 2011 - for over a year i've been brushing my teeth with a diluted dr. bronner's magic soaps with great success.

for the last 6 months i added a mixture of 1 part sea salt to 10 parts baking soda to my teethbrushing. i have it mixed in a jar, and add a drop size to the toothbrush after the dr. bronners is dispensed onto it.

i'm no longer supporting the purchase of any toothpaste, especially the ones that come in tubes, because they are plastic, petroleum, and non recyclable.

-----------
of all toothpaste options at the bowery whole body / whole foods in nyc,
the natural frugal toothpaste decision is:
sea fresh toothpaste by jason natural
(but be careful, from a quick search just now, they may have a sea fresh option with fluoride, check the packaging for specifically for "no fluoride" written.)

process leading to decision:

searching for toothpaste without fluorides or sls
a lot of the all natural brands still use both,
some brands, like jason natural, some of their toothpastes have it, some don't.

some brands/options are way over priced, and might still have had fluoride and sls.

price at the bowery whole body / whole foods in nyc:
$4.79 / 6oz = $0.80/oz

overall a really good price, even when compared to toothpastes with sls and fluorides.
this drugstore.com link has more detailed product info.

i've considered not buying toothpaste, and just using baking soda and sea salt, or similar online recipes if they exist, but haven't gone there yet.

a friend told me that using dr. bronner's liquid castile soap as toothpaste once, made her tastebuds numb, as in she couldn't taste, for a day.
